Flapjack's real-life journey from overlooked to unforgettable is the heart of PANCAKE & FLAPjACK. Adopted by the author's best college friend — Rhonda and her husband, David — Flappie found humans who didn't need him to perform to be loved.
The sense of being overlooked followed Flapjack into his new life. He didn't demand anything, he didn't cause trouble. Defined by routine rather than adventure, he took delight in simple pleasures — like retrieving a tossed ball over and over again, but never quite returning it to the hands of the thrower!
Flappie didn't have quirks that made for funny stories, he simply lived quietly, grateful for a soft bed and predictable days.
Nothing about Flapjack's everyday life would shape a storybook. No dramatic events. No medals or trophies, no noteworthy accolades. Flapjack may not have done anything remarkable, but his thirteen years on this planet carry remarkable value. Flapjack showed us that being overlooked doesn't mean being unworthy.
